Oh Worms

While we were preparing a spot for our garden Adam discovered earthworms. He found them quite fascinating. Mommy explained that the worms live in the ground, that they help the garden, that we need to be gentle with them, and put them back in the dirt. Adam seemed satisfied with that and continued to work, pausing occasionally to check out more worms. With Adam and the worms helping out, we are feeling optimistic about this year's garden.

The Music of My Heart

A year ago today we had a Family Home Evening Lesson on music. We pulled out the pots, spatulas, and spoons. Adam waved the spatula in delight as he led the music.
365 days later his love of music continues strong. When he sees little children one of his first reactions is to dance and sing circles around them. He loves to hear, make, and share music. We love being a part of Adam's first symphony.

Oh Broom

Adam studied our new broom on our walk back from the store. He loves brooms. He carried this new one through the store and all the way home. After a nap he tried its sweeping ability and seemed quite pleased.

Lil' Gardener

Adam checks on our tomatoes. Nope, not ripe yet. Have the England family tomato genes passed on to him?

Superman's Guests

At four this morning we got house guests. Aunt Meshanna and Loran came to spend the weekend with us. When Adam saw Aunt Meshanna he snuggled right in and gave her a hug. After we got them situated we headed back to bed, to try and catch some sleep. Adam was very excited by their arrival and could not get back to sleep until sometime around six thirty.

Adam wore his Superman Suit for the special day (yes, for those of you who wondered it still fits).

Though Adam warmed right up to Aunt Meshanna, he seemed a little uncertain of Loran at first. Adam spent a long time watching and studying him. In the afternoon they joined us while we ran errands. They kept Adam company in the back of the car as we drove. Before long Loran had won Adam over. He soon had him imitating the funny sounds he made.

We enjoyed spending the day visiting with our guests, and when bed time rolled around we were all ready for sleep, even Superman.

Show Me a Sign

It's baby signing time. We have been signing a few baby signs with Adam, such as: more, potty, all done, and I love you. We decided to expand our vocabulary and ordered Baby Siging Time volumes one and two. When the package came addressed to Adam he studied the contents carefully. His got excited when they were doing the sign for milk, and referenced a baby drinking mommy's milk. Finally a movie with some real milk in it, now were talking!

Black Tie Dinner

We went out to eat at Chili's at the spur of the moment, after running errands. Adam out-dressed his parents. When did our baby change from looking like a little baby to a proper little toddler?

The Happiest Baby

"they poked me!"
Adam related the adventures of his day to Grandma Bairn. He had a lot to report. Among the events of the day was his six month check up at the pediatrician's office this evening. He checked out as healthy, though on the small side. He is 13 lbs 11 oz, 25" long. For his height he is in the tenth percentile, and only in the third percentile for his weight. The nurse practitioner said "I thought I had met the happiest baby earlier today, but I was wrong. He is the happiest baby." After that Adam received his first vaccines (not the happiest part of his day). It was a very big day for him.

A Long Day

Adam set a personal record for crying today. It is unusual for him to cry -- get a little fussy, yes, but actual crying is rare, especialy for extended periods. The crying began around 2:00 pm. Mommy tried everything she could think of, everything her mother could think of, and everything Daddy could think of. Daddy left work to help take care of him at 3:00 pm. Adam would stop only for very short intervals; if he slept he would softly cry in his sleep. It was very hard not to be able to make it all better. Finally around 7:30 pm he showed an interest in one of his toys, and gave the first smile since the onset over five hours earlier. Shortly thereafter he had his first peaceful real nap of the day. He slept for several hours. When he awoke he was much happier. He even took time to study the screensaver on the family computer (which is the computer age equivalent of stopping to smell the roses). It has been a long day with a happy ending.

First Valentine

Adam received his first Valentine's card in the mail today.

He examined his card with care. He found it quite tasteful. Thanks Aunt Miranda for sharing the love.

Surveyor

Our little studious guy inspected his baby chair. It must have passed inspection since the smiles soon followed.
