5 am?

What were you doing at five am, we ask?
In our home Adam had just woken from a seven hour sleep in his crib. (That in itself is noteworthy as he usually sleeps only an hour or two before waking up and coming to bed with Mom and Dad.) When Mommy went to get him she discovered that his pajamas and crib sheet were soaked. Adam was apparently much sleepier than his bladder and his little diaper could not keep up. An emergency early morning bath pursued. Adam could not understand what had gotten into Mommy. The look on his face during the bath said "I would rather be sleeping". He was relieved after we were in bed again were he soon fell asleep nursing. He did not rouse again until after nine. He definitely inherited his Daddy's dislike of getting up early. When he did wake up he had a dry diaper and went potty right away in the toilet.I guess he did not want a repeat of 5 am.

Undies!!!

Adam wasn't very happy about getting his vaccines boostered but he perked up when a special package came in the mail for him. Grandma made him his first pair of training pants. We never imagined that we would be putting our seven month old in underwear. Grandma, you did a great job. They fit just right. Our little boy who loves to try on new clothes was happy to model his new whitey-tighties. Welcome to the wondrous world of underwear, Adam.

Diaper Free Meeting

Today Adam and Mommy attended their first Diaper Free meeting. This is a support group for EC families. We reported that in Adam's first three weeks of communication elimination he had 235 successes on the potty. Upon hearing this the mentor said she had never heard of any baby being so successful so quickly. We enjoyed meeting with the other babies and mommies. In keeping focused he even used the big toilet there. He is our little EC poster baby.

Asleep On The Job

Adam now wakes us up when he needs to go potty in the middle of the night, by crying. We carry him to his potty chair and set him on the seat. He wants to be near us and will cuddle up to whomever is taking him. He then empties his bladder. We get him dressed again and take him back to bed, where he immediately falls asleep. As all this takes place he rarely opens his eyes. He has started falling asleep on the pot before he gets a chance to relieve himself, only to have to wait until the next time his little body arouses him with the need to go. He has defiantly inherited the gene to sleep.

Who's Counting? EC Update

It has now been a complete week since we began Elimination Communication (EC) with Adam. We are happy to report that within the past week we have saved 67 diapers! Since he's discovered he has a superior option Adam is more vocal in letting us know he needs to go. He is even waking us up at night to go potty then going right back to sleep. When we began our EC journey we had no idea that it would go this well this soon. We only wish we would have started sooner. EC= better for the environment, better for budget, better for Adam. Way to go Adam!

Elimination Communication

Adam is and has been very sensitive to having wet or messy diapers. We heard about "Elimination Communication" and decided to look into it. Basically it is being in tune with your baby's signals that they need to go potty, and providing an outlet other than diapers. Civilizations have been doing this for centuries. In India it is still practiced. Last night we had a Family Home Evening on Elimination Communication, and decided to take the plunge.

This morning before Daddy left for work we walked to BuyBuyBaby and let Adam pick out a potty chair. His choice: a lime green seat. Today Mommy focused on cues that Adam gives right before wetting his diaper. We are happy to report that it worked! Adam peed in his potty chair for the first time around 2:15 pm, then again about 3:20 pm, and again at 4:05 pm. Good job Adam!!! He was much happier not having to sit in his waste.
