Zonked Out

Daddy worked late tonight. When he got home Adam was already asleep.

The Happiest Baby

"they poked me!"

Adam related the adventures of his day to Grandma Bairn. He had a lot to report. Among the events of the day was his six month check up at the pediatrician's office this evening. He checked out as healthy, though on the small side. He is 13 lbs 11 oz, 25" long. For his height he is in the tenth percentile, and only in the third percentile for his weight. The nurse practitioner said "I thought I had met the happiest baby earlier today, but I was wrong. He is the happiest baby." After that Adam received his first vaccines (not the happiest part of his day). It was a very big day for him.

Fame and Yogurt

Adam has learned to pose for the camera. We have taken at least one picture of him daily. Today he got his six month portraits taken at the Picture People studio. The pictures turned out so well that the photographer asked us to fill out a model release. His pictures will hang on the wall in their studio. The portraits were good, but we think that a yogurt mustache is in its own class.

Please, Sir, I Want Some More

In honor of Adam's six month birthday he got yogurt for the very first time. This is his first dairy product (of many to come.) He clearly enjoyed the yogurt, but every time we tried to capture the moment he changed expression.
These past six months have been filled with joy and awe. We are very grateful that this special little guy is a part of our forever family. We look forward to many more birthday celebrations and discoveries with him.

It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's...Adam!

Wow! The Superman suit still fits. Adam has advanced to a bigger size of clothes, but the Superman suit still made the cut. Adam flew around on this overcast day in celebration.

Strong Baby

Everywhere we go people comment on Adam's strength. Mommy stood him up behind one of his toys today to see what would happen. Adam seemed to like this new adventure. He remained upright holding on to the toy for quite a while. He even tried one handed. We are excited to see what amazing things he will do with such strength.

Popcorn Popping

We looked out the window and what did we see? Popcorn popping on the neighbors tree!

Good Morning

A Long Day

Adam set a personal record for crying today. It is unusual for him to cry -- get a little fussy, yes, but actual crying is rare, especialy for extended periods. The crying began around 2:00 pm. Mommy tried everything she could think of, everything her mother could think of, and everything Daddy could think of. Daddy left work to help take care of him at 3:00 pm. Adam would stop only for very short intervals; if he slept he would softly cry in his sleep. It was very hard not to be able to make it all better. Finally around 7:30 pm he showed an interest in one of his toys, and gave the first smile since the onset over five hours earlier. Shortly thereafter he had his first peaceful real nap of the day. He slept for several hours. When he awoke he was much happier. He even took time to study the screensaver on the family computer (which is the computer age equivalent of stopping to smell the roses). It has been a long day with a happy ending.

Wash the Baby, Dry the Baby

Adam helped Mommy do laundry today. He even helped with his socks. Mommy was surprised that Adam dropped them in the drawer when prompted, instead of continuing to hold them. Chores are so much more pleasant when you've got a happy little companion.

Lil' Conductor

Music appreciation was our theme for Family Home Evening tonight. We had fun making music with pots and spoons. This was a great topic for Adam. He loves music very much. If he is listening to music and it stops he gets frustrated. Encore! Encore!

Climbing Mt. Mommy

Every day Adam seems to ascend to greater heights in mobility. He rolls with such fluidity and stretches with such ease. He no longer remains stationary where he is placed, exploring his world beyond the blanket on the floor. Today's new challenge: climbing Mommy. Outcome: victorious!

Two Heads Are Better Than One

Noses have been running; chests have been congested; tissues have been full. With all that going on it was nice to see Adam bouncing with glee this evening as he sat with Daddy.

Thumbs Up!

Adam has a newfound freedom. He is learning that by twisting, rolling, and scooting, he can be on the move. He is quite pleased with his new skills and this discovery.

Pie

Adam helped Mommy make pies today. Mommy had a pie themed recipe exchange tonight. So they tried out a new recipe, Chocolate Orange Fudge Pie. It was a hit. Thanks for your help, Adam!

Computer Work

Part of Adam's daily routine is typing on the computer. He takes this work very seriously. Usually it involves instant messaging Daddy. Today it was with Daddy that Adam worked.

Green Family

We've had an extended St. Patrick's Day celebration. We've had a great time and are all looking forward to wearing something, anything other than green. This is our last green picture for a while. We promise. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Sippy

Adam is learning to drink from a sippy cup. He is quite pleased with his new skill. It is amazing watching him learn and develop. His infant days are slipping away.

Dressed For Church

Church is a great experience for Adam. He likes the people he meets at church, his little fan club. He likes studying the every move of the toddlers. Above all he loves that people at church sing to him. He is our little music boy. After Primary, one of the teachers who sits in the row in front of us commented that he is getting so big. She said she looked back and saw that he had "turned into a person." This is one little person who loves church.

All Wound Up

We all love a good party, but there is nothing like getting back to regular routine. After the party, Adam was so excited to spend time with his daddy. He could hardly stay still. A perfect ending to a good day.

Wearing Of The Green

We had a great St. Patrick's day party. Trivia, yummy food, wearing of the green, and a gold hunt filled our home. We were excited to see all of our party guests, friends from CompSci (Nathan's work), and the Summers of Springfield. Adam was most excited to see his distant cousin Liam Summers. Adam enjoys Liam's company, even though Liam is much bigger and sometimes not as gentle as Adam would like. They are cute to watch together. Adam dressed in his green leprechaun suit, and baby Wesley sucked on a green pacifier. We are already planning our next St. Patty's Day party; mark your calendars.

Sleep While You Still Can

Daddy and Adam sleeping just before Mommy woke Daddy up to prepare for our upcoming St. Patrick's Day party.

Birthday Wishes For A Dear Friend

Just after midnight we wished Steve a happy birthday. Adam must have recognized that the game was over and woke to help sing to Steve. The first book that Steve read as a twenty-nine year old was Who Loves Baby, a personal favorite of Adam's. The book has no more text than the title on the cover, but that didn't stop Steve, who extemporaneously composed a lively exegesis that resembled the style of epic Greek poetry. With a beginning like this the upcoming year is bound to be great. Happy Birthday Steve!

The Night Before Stevemas

We went over to Stephen and Meredith Aquila's to celebrate the night before Steve's birthday. Adam joined the ranks of the countless who cannot make it through a whole game of Monopoly (or in this case, Bookopoly.)

Reach Out And Touch Someone

Adam and Minuet are becoming pals. Minuet has started laying next to the blanket where Adam is playing or coming up and sniffing him. Tonight as she did this, Adam reached out his little hand and began running his fingers through her fur. Minuet is a very easygoing dog; she will let children do just about anything they want. Adam was delighted in his discovery that he can not only watch her, he can touch her. Just wait until Minuet discovers that Adam can drop food for her! Their friendship will be unbreakable.

Picnic in the Park

Today we had our first picnic as a family of three. The weather was holding out, and we could not pass up the opportunity. During Daddy's lunch break we went to Edsall Park. We enjoyed the warmth. Adam even got to ride his first horse. Well OK, rocking horse.

Eliminating The Middle-Man

Adam decided there was a more efficient way of eating his breakfast. Mommy had been spoon feeding him, when he suddenly grabbed the squash dish with both hands. Perhaps that is why f-a-s-t is in breakfast.

In An Upside-Down World

Adam's face lit up when he saw Daddy walk into the room. Soon they were playing. Adam laughed as he was turned upside down. In these times when so many peoples lives have been turned upside-down, are we seeking out those we love? Are finding joy in the little things?

Even Superman Sleeps

Spring Forward

We changed our clocks today. Adam didn't. He was starting to get tired and fussy, until he saw the camera. He is so funny. He has definitely learned to pose for the camera. Now all we need to teach him to do is pose for the pillow.

Sunshine

Our little sunshine soaked up the warm weather today. After having a heavy snow earlier this week, 75 degrees felt like paradise. Yes Adam, this is what we have to look forward to with the coming spring.

Making Cookies With Mommy

Adam joined in the fun as we made cookies this evening. He seems to like helping in the kitchen. Perhaps someday we will have our own Chef Adam.
